The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has issued an official statement regarding the case of Ebrima Ceesay, a taxi driver who went missing in July 2024.
In a comprehensive report, the GPF confirmed that Ceesay, who was reported missing on July 18, 2024, was discovered deceased in a pond in Kampant village just two days later. “Unfortunately, the body was hastily buried by local villagers, unaware of the ongoing missing person investigation. The police intervened on July 21, exhuming the body for identification purposes and subsequently informing Ceesay’s family,” the report stated.
According to authorities, Ceesay’s family, led by his father, Baba Ceesay, initially declined to visit the mortuary for identification, asserting that images circulating on social media did not correspond to their son. The report also indicated that it was not until December 26, 2024—five months after the discovery—that the family confirmed the identity of the body.
The investigation has brought attention to Ebou Secka, a person of interest linked to Ceesay’s disappearance. The police arrested Secka on October 6, 2024, but complications arose due to his connection with a prior robbery case. “It was noted that he escaped from police custody on December 19, 2024, leading to an ongoing manhunt and internal investigations into the circumstances of his escape,” the report highlighted.
The GPF reassured the public of its commitment to transparency and justice throughout the ongoing investigation, urging anyone with pertinent information to assist law enforcement.
As the case unfolds, the police pledge to keep the public informed, emphasizing their dedication to achieving justice for Ebrima Ceesay and his family.
