The National Assembly reviewed the budget proposals for the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) during the Pre-Budget Retreat. The proposed budget for 2026 is GMD 5.84 billion, a 19% increase from 2025’s GMD 4.9 billion. The budget includes three main programs:

1. Strategy, Policy, and Management: GMD 290.9 million (10% increase)

2. Basic Education Management: GMD 4.79 billion (20% increase)

3. Secondary Education Management: GMD 761.0 million (20% increase)

Key spending areas driving the budget increase include Fees and Handling, School Improvement Grants, Food Services, and Salaries. The budget also supports the newly established Gambia National Library Service Authority. This review is part of broader discussions on financial priorities for the 2026 revenue and expenditure estimates.
