Gambia Ministry of Defence Holds Second Meeting for Arms Trade Treaty Stakeholder Institutions

On October 2, 2025, The Gambia’s Ministry of Defence, in collaboration with Safer World, held a meeting at the Defence Headquarters in Banjul for stakeholders of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT).

Permanent Secretary Rohie Bittaye Darboe highlighted The Gambia’s accession to the ATT in September 2024. The meeting focused on reviewing the country’s initial report under the Treaty and establishing a National Structure for stakeholder representation.

Mr. Roy from Safer World facilitated discussions on compliance and the implementation of the ATT, providing updates on various related thematic areas. The ATT aims to regulate global trade in conventional arms, enhance transparency, and prevent illicit arms transfers and the use of violence.
