Gambia Held First Sahel Governance Forum, where President Barrow called for Regional Transformation and Governance Reform

The Sahel Governance Forum, held at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Center in Bijilo, focuses on governance, security, and the future of the Sahel, with the theme “The Future of Governance: Rebuilding Social Cohesion and Public Trust.”

President Adama Barrow emphasized the need for leaders to adopt inclusive governance to rebuild public trust and confidence.

He called for commitment to patriotism and good neighborliness to improve economies and stabilize the Sahel and Africa.

At the national level, President Adama Barrow reaffirmed his government’s commitment to reform in The Gambia, discussing progress in transitional justice and national development at the Sahel Governance Forum.

His government accepted 263 out of 265 recommendations from the Truth, Reconciliation, and Reparations Commission (TRRC) and is gradually implementing them.

Barrow introduced the Green Recovery-Focused National Development Plan (2023-2027), called YIRIWAA, which aims for a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable Gambia.

He emphasized that good governance and peacebuilding are essential for achieving lasting development, stressing the importance of trust, justice, and inclusion.
