The Director General of the Gambia Tourism Board, Abubakar Camara, has announced that approximately 232,000 tourists are expected to visit the country this season. In total, 57 flights, including 33 scheduled and 24 chartered flights, are scheduled to arrive in Banjul each week.
Airlines from various countries will operate these flights, bringing in tourists from Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and other parts of the world. Despite a decrease in German tourists following FTI’s departure from the market, an agreement with TUI and a partnership with Nova Tours aim to attract tourists from new markets.
The controversial $20 security levy imposed on departing and arriving passengers has concerned tourists and tourism stakeholders. However, the GT Board is actively working to reduce congestion and queuing caused by the levy, ensuring a smoother travel experience.
