France has returned the skull of King Toera and three others from the Sakalava ethnic group to Madagascar after 127 years.
The skulls were taken during a colonial raid in the late 1800s and were held at the National Museum of Natural History in Paris.
A ceremony took place at the French Ministry of Culture, with a funeral planned for August 31. Culture Minister Rachida Dati described it as a “historic event,” and President Emmanuel Macron emphasized its significance for reconciliation.
This return follows a new French law that allows for the restitution of human remains without requiring legislative processes.
