The first-ever E1 electric boat racing championship in Africa took place in Lagos, where competitors raced battery-operated hydrofoil vessels known as RaceBirds.

Team Brazil won the inaugural event of the season. The E1 series, introduced in 2024, has garnered endorsements from celebrities such as Rafael Nadal, Will Smith, and Didier Drogba.

Organizers aim to expand the number of teams and races, with projections of generating $100 million in tourism revenue for Lagos. The season will feature locations such as Jeddah, Doha, and Monaco and will conclude in Miami in November.
