A coalition of civil rights activists known as the Coalition of Progressive Gambians has organized protests in response to President Adama Barrow’s potential bid for a third term in office.
Demonstrators expressed a sense of urgency, urging Barrow to uphold the democratic process as the 2024 presidential election approaches. They specifically called for adopting the 2020 draft constitution, which aims to limit presidential terms. This push for constitutional reform, alongside their concerns about corruption during Barrow’s presidency and their advocacy for reforms, highlights the growing public discontent with his leadership.
The government’s silence on the protesters’ demands, coupled with the ensuing controversy, is expected to become a significant topic of discussion in the political landscape as the election draws nearer.
