Chad has ended its 15-year partnership with African Parks due to inadequate poaching control and disrespectful conduct towards the government.
Environment Minister Hassan Bakhit Djamous expressed concerns about the rising incidence of poaching and the insufficient investment in reserves. African Parks had previously increased the elephant population in Zakouma National Park from 450 in 2010 to over 550 by 2019.
The organization, despite facing challenges such as poverty and corruption, renewed its management agreement with Chad for the Ennedi reserve in April, despite acknowledging human rights violations by its staff in the Republic of Congo earlier this year.
