The Local Government Commission of Inquiry questioned former Brikama Area Council Chairman Sheriffo Sonko and former CEO Modou Jonga regarding the management of Geology Funds from May 2018 to January 2023.

Jonga explained the council’s payment procedures and indicated that Sonko was not involved in many financial decisions. He admitted to using D11.8 million of the D33.7 million Geology Funds for bank loans and repairs without proper approval.

The council’s account had a negative balance of D2.5 million, and Jonga revealed that Sonko was unaware of the financial issues. Mam Sait Jallow, a former BAC CEO, discussed unauthorized payments and a problematic contract with 5C Energy.

Both Jonga and Sonko are scheduled to appear before the Commission again on Monday.
