Air India Plane Crashes in Ahmedabad with 242 People on Board

An Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, Flight AI 171, crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad, India on June 12.

The flight was headed to Gatwick Airport in the UK and had 242 people on board, including 230 passengers and 12 crew members. Among those on the flight were 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, one Canadian, and seven Portuguese nationals.

Thick smoke was seen at the crash site, and local authorities reported that there were no survivors. The crash happened in a residential area, raising concerns about injuries to people on the ground.

Air India confirmed the crash and stated that emergency services are assisting with rescue efforts, supporting the injured, and collaborating with investigators.
