ONS and UN Strengthen Collaboration and Partnership on Security Sector Reform Initiatives

The Gambia’s ONS and UN collaborate on advancing Security Sector Reform through strategic planning, gender-inclusive monitoring, and public engagement to foster accountable and rights-based security institutions.

On October 30, 2025, the Office of National Security (ONS) held a meeting with UN representatives to discuss The Gambia’s Security Sector Reform (SSR) agenda. Areas of cooperation include:

1. Evaluation of the 2026 Workplan.

2. Discussion on renovating project offices and translating the SSR Strategy into local languages.

3. Strategies for increasing public awareness of SSR, particularly in rural areas.

4. Planning for a National Survey on Security Needs to align with institutional priorities.

5. Emphasis on capacity building, institutional development, and infrastructure improvements.

6. Development of a Monitoring and Evaluation Dashboard for data-driven decisions and gender considerations in SSR, including a Gender Action Plan and training for gender focal points.

7. Commitment to enhance coordination in implementing the SSR Strategy, including creating an SSR training manual for journalism students.
