Gambia Hosts 2nd International Social Protection Conference

The Gambia achieved 100% national social-registry coverage and launched a dedicated Social Protection Fund at the 2nd International Social Protection Conference in Bijilo.

The National Social Protection Agency (NaSPA) held the 2nd International Social Protection Conference in Bijilo, themed “Investing in Resilience: Towards Long-Term Financing of Social Protection.”

Hon. Dr. Habibatou Drammeh emphasized The Gambia’s commitment to social protection, highlighting key achievements: 100% coverage of the national social registry, the first in Sub-Saharan Africa; creation of a Social Protection Fund; direct assistance to over 16,000 households, including those with disabilities; and passage of the National Social Protection Act 2024.

Dr. Drammeh also noted the role of social protection in the National Development Plan (2023–2027) in promoting resilience and shared prosperity. The conference aimed at fostering collaboration and innovation for the benefit of all Gambians.
