Seychelles will hold a rerun of its presidential election due to no candidate achieving the required majority.

Opposition leader Patrick Herminie received 48.8% of the votes, while incumbent President Wavel Ramkalawan garnered 46.4%. The date for the rerun is yet to be determined.

Herminie is from the United Seychelles party, which was in power from 1977 to 2020, while Ramkalawan aims for a second term. Early voting has started, with most ballots cast on Saturday.

The Seychelles is renowned for its luxury tourism and boasts one of the highest GDPs per capita in Africa.
