The European Union has proposed a plan to urge Israel to cease hostilities in Gaza, aiming to improve conditions for Palestinians.

Key elements of the plan include raising tariffs on Israeli goods, imposing sanctions on 10 Hamas leaders, certain Israeli settlers, and two members of Prime Minister Netanyahu’s Cabinet, which would freeze their European assets and restrict their travel.

Additionally, the EU plans to suspend about 32 million euros in bilateral funds. There is internal disagreement within the EU regarding these measures, and public protests indicate dissatisfaction with the EU’s response.

Since the conflict escalated on October 7, 2023, nearly 65,000 Palestinians have died in Gaza.
