Burkina Faso’s parliament has enacted a law banning homosexuality, with penalties of two to five years in prison.

This law aligns the country with several other African nations that have similar legislation. Many locals view homosexuality as an external influence rather than a natural orientation.

The Justice Minister labeled homosexual acts as “bizarre behavior,” framing the law as support for “marriage and family values.”

The country has been under military rule since the 2022 coup, raising concerns about potential human rights abuse.
