Migration has driven the European Union’s population to a record 450.4 million, as the bloc has experienced more deaths than births since 2012.

In 2024, the EU welcomed 1.07 million new residents, resulting in a positive net migration of 2.3 million people, despite a natural decline of 1.3 million.

Last year, there were 4.82 million deaths and 3.56 million births, highlighting demographic challenges due to an aging population and low birth rates.

France, Germany, and Italy account for nearly 47% of the EU’s population, with Malta, Ireland, and Luxembourg seeing the highest growth rates. Conversely, Latvia, Hungary, Poland, and Estonia experienced population declines.
