The United States has revised its visa policy for Nigeria, effective July 8, with most non-immigrant and non-diplomatic visas now being single-entry and valid for only three months.

This marks a shift from the previous policy, which permitted multiple entries for extended periods. The US State Department will regularly review these policies based on factors such as diplomacy and security, aiming to enhance cooperation with Nigeria on secure travel documents.

Visa applicants will also have their social media accounts scrutinized for negative sentiments toward the US. Nigeria is a significant source of international students in the US, ranking seventh globally and first in Africa.

These policy changes may be linked to Nigeria’s recent diplomatic moves, especially its relationships with BRICS nations.
