US President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet with leaders from Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mauritania, and Senegal from July 9 to July 11, which is seen as a move to strengthen U.S.-Africa relations.
Recently, the White House facilitated a peace deal between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Trump’s previous meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa was reportedly tense.
The upcoming mini summit will likely focus on trade and business opportunities, aiming to replace reduced humanitarian programs and development aid.
A larger U.S.-Africa summit is planned for September, though it remains unconfirmed.
