The Trump administration has set a 60-day deadline for 36 countries, mainly in Africa, to improve their traveler vetting systems.
If these countries do not comply, their citizens may be banned from entering the U.S. A State Department cable outlines the requirements, which focus on better travel documentation and reducing illegal immigration.
The affected countries include U.S. allies such as Egypt and Djibouti, as well as others, including Syria and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The main concerns are national security and poor screening processes.
Recently, the administration placed a travel ban on 12 countries and is tightening restrictions on others. The list of 36 includes nations like Angola, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, and Zimbabwe.
