Government Eliminates Import Duties and Domestic Taxes on Livestock for Tobaski

Gambia implements duty waivers, fee reductions, and streamlined procedures for livestock importation and sales at new Brikama and Kanifing points from May 27, 2025, to support Tobaski trade.

The Gambian government has announced new rules to facilitate livestock importation and sales for the Tobaski feast. These measures will begin on May 27, 2025.

  • Waiver of import duties and domestic taxes on livestock.
  • 50% reduction in ferry crossing fees for livestock dealers transporting over ten animals.
  • Exemption from local council fees for dealers.
  • Designated sales points established in Brikama and Kanifing.
  • Increased police presence at sales points for safety.
  • Expedited entry procedures for ECOWAS livestock dealers with free laissez-passer issuance.

Minister Bubacarr O. Joof urged dealers to use these measures to increase trade before the holiday.
