Momodou Camara, former Director of Finance at Banjul City Council, testified before The Gambia’s Local Government Commission of Inquiry, claiming he was pressured to authorize a GMD 2.5 million payment to Jida Trading, associated with Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe.

He expressed concerns about weak documentation and refused to sign until a memo was given to proceed. Despite warnings about substandard goods, he approved the payment.

Camara alleged that Mayor Lowe instructed him not to share internal communications. He was later removed from his position due to a politically motivated resolution by councillors who were reportedly bribed.

He criticized former CEO Mustapha Batchilly for being aligned with the Mayor. The Commission is investigating potential misconduct in local governments.
