President Adama Barrow launched the Water Supply Project in the Greater Banjul Area (WASIB) to provide safe drinking water to over one million people in the West Coast Region.
The project aims to extend the water network by 300,000 meters, increase national water production capacity by 25%, and improve supply for 920,000 residents. Key components include a Water Quality Monitoring Laboratory, access to clean water for 80,000 new beneficiaries, and 14 new boreholes.
The European Investment Bank and the Government of France support the initiative. Additionally, to enhance the project’s focus, NAWEC will be divided into separate entities for Water and Electricity.
