Achraf Hakimi, a player for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), has been named the top African player in Ligue 1 after helping his club secure its 13th title and reach the Champions League final.
He won the Marc-Vivien Foé award, beating out competitors Evann Guessand and Habib Diarra. Hakimi expressed pride in the recognition, which honors a Cameroonian player who died in 2003. Since joining PSG in 2021, Hakimi has become one of the best right-backs, scoring four goals and providing six assists this season.
Despite facing rape charges, which he has denied, he continues to have strong support. Hakimi is the second defender to receive this award and the fourth Moroccan to do so. He will play in upcoming finals and the Africa Cup of Nations in December.
