A bed bug outbreak has spread from Harare’s Mbare suburb to other cities, including Mutare, Bulawayo, and Gweru. In response, the Mutare City Council is conducting fumigation and raising awareness, although there are no confirmed cases at the Bako flea market.

The Community Working Group on Health has raised concerns about health risks in Mbare, attributing the infestations to overcrowding, poor hygiene, and inadequate living conditions.

Executive director Itai Rusike emphasized the need for improved housing standards, sanitation, and water supply while criticizing previous improvement initiatives.
