GACH Group’s recent importation of basalt is set to provide The Gambia with essential resources, especially following the Senegalese government’s decision to suspend product exports.

Historically, The Gambia has relied on Senegal for basalt, and this ban came at a crucial time as the government and citizens prepared for significant development projects. Recognizing the situation’s urgency, GACH Global CEO Abubakary Jawara proactively sought alternatives. After extensive negotiations, he successfully partnered with a Cape Verdean company to facilitate basalt export.

The arrival of the first vessel carrying significant quantities of basalt at the Gambia Ports Authority was a momentous occasion, attended by Jawara, senior government officials, family members, and supporters.

This initiative is designed to bolster national infrastructure projects such as road construction. In collaboration with G5X, GACH has also committed to offering the basalt at competitive prices. The shipment included 20,000 tonnes available in three sizes: 03, 3/8, and 1.6. Cape Verde and Gambian quality tests have confirmed the basalt’s high quality.

Mr. Jawara expressed profound appreciation for the support from the Gambian government and President Adama Barrow, which paved the way for impactful investments in the country. He assured stakeholders of a steady supply of basalt that would benefit local communities and generate more job opportunities.

Matar Ceesay, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, highlighted the strengthened collaborative relationship and emphasized the government’s role as a major consumer of basalt. He believes that increased competition will enhance accessibility and affordability of building materials, further fostering trade and economic development between The Gambia and Cape Verde.

PS Ceesay congratulated GACH and G5X on achieving this significant milestone and reaffirmed the ministry’s dedication to supporting local businesses engaged in international trade. Gilberto Baros, an executive board member of G5X, noted that this venture represents a vital step forward in the partnership between The Gambia and Cape Verde, which aims to create collaborative benefits through synergy and mutual support.
