A 47-year-old Nigerian man, John Peter Ozioma, was apprehended at Banjul International Airport after authorities discovered four parcels of suspected cannabis ruderalis, commonly referred to as skunk, concealed within a car filter. This arrest marks a significant development in The Gambia’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking, highlighting concerns over the increasing prevalence of illegal substances in the region.

The Drug Law Enforcement Agency of The Gambia (DLEAG) has been actively engaged in operations aimed at addressing drug-related crimes, resulting in a series of arrests over the past week. Ozioma’s case is among several that involve individuals detained with various controlled substances, including cannabis sativa and ecstasy pills.

Authorities stress the importance of these arrests in curbing drug trafficking and safeguarding communities. “We are committed to dismantling these networks and ensuring that those involved face justice,” stated DLEAG representative. Ozioma remains in custody as investigations proceed and is awaiting further legal proceedings. This case underscores the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in The Gambia and the urgent need for collaborative efforts to address this growing challenge.
