Seven electricians tragically lost their lives on October 9th when an old electric pole fell onto live wires, causing instant electrocution, as reported.
The incident occurred in Kerr Galo, near Essau, while the team was replacing aging poles. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as emergency services arrived. It was devastating to see. A resident remarked that they were carrying out their duties when the accident happened. Authorities are investigating the incident to evaluate the safety protocols in place and the condition of the infrastructure involved.
The community is mourning the loss of the workers, who were highly regarded for their commitment to upholding vital services. Gambian President Adama Barrow expressed profound sadness following the deaths of the electricians. He was informed of the tragic accident involving seven young Gambians who were working on a contract at Mendy Kunda after Sami Essau in the North Bank Region.
