The Gambia National Petroleum Corporation, GNPC, has donated two million dalasis to the Afcon National Coordinating Committee to support the country’s participation at the African Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast. The corporation also announced it will reduce D1 from its fuel pump prices for the tournament duration.
GNPC is a state-owned company established to maximize the benefit from the country’s hydrocarbon resources in an efficient, safe, and environmentally friendly manner that will enhance and contribute to the country’s national wealth growth.
The GNPC Director of Commerce, Sadibou Jammeh, said that as a National Oil Company, it is their corporate social responsibility to support a worthy national cause, such as the national team’s participation at the Afcon. “We have also initiated a discount promo of one dalasi for all customers for every liter bought from GNPC, effective January 15 to February 11, 2024.
This support and special discount are part of a more significant initiative by GNPC to adopt and support scorpions as a national product. The company seeks to become the main official sponsor of the Scorpions in the future,” Jammeh revealed. He further added that the company also wants to become a household name in national development, especially in football. To that effect, GNPC would work on “number of initiatives aimed at repositioning itself as a leading oil corporation in The Gambia and the sub-region.” I want to appeal to all Gambians to continue to support our giant national oil company, as GNPC is here to help our national development endeavors,” Jammeh said.
