Two young Gambian Police officers who were shot and killed while on duty are being remembered on September 13, one year after their tragic deaths. PC Pateh Jallow and PC Sang J Gomez succumbed to their gunshot wounds, while their colleague Nancy Jallow sustained severe injuries when an assailant opened fire on them. A man suspected of the shooting is currently facing prosecution at the High Court.

In a poignant tribute, The Gambia’s Inspector General of Police, Seedy Muctarr Touray, paid homage to the officers as heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of their country. Touray expressed that the Gambia Police Force will keep them in our prayers for as long as we live and pray that the Almighty Allah forgives their shortcomings and grants their souls the highest place in Jannah. He mentioned that this day commemorates precisely one year since their passing. By tradition, GPF will conduct a remembrance parade to honor their outstanding service to the people of The Gambia.

The senior police official called upon all Gambians to pay tribute to the fallen heroes and pray for their peaceful repose. He emphasized the inherent risks that the police encounter while protecting the public and their possessions. Additionally, he acknowledged that while policing is an esteemed profession, it presents significant challenges and exposes our uniformed men and women to considerable peril.
