Former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga passed away on Wednesday, leading to global condolences for his contributions to Kenyan democracy.
Despite five unsuccessful presidential runs, he remained a key political figure and recently reached an agreement with President William Ruto.
Born in 1945 as the son of Kenya’s first vice president, Odinga was imprisoned in the 1980s for opposing one-party rule.
His wife and three children survive him. His death is considered a significant loss for the opposition ahead of the 2027 elections, with Ruto declaring seven days of mourning and planning a state funeral.
