On June 30, 2025, Seedy Jammeh, Yusupha M. Cham, and Matarr Sylva, officials from The Gambia’s Intellectual Property Registry Office, appeared in the High Court.
They faced six charges: conspiracy to defraud, theft of public funds totaling D14,395,620, forgery, economic crimes, official corruption, and abuse of office.
The prosecutor, Counsel M. Sarr, claims that the officials conspired to issue fake receipts and misused funds from intellectual property fees between 2018 and 2019. Each official pleaded not guilty.
Justice Jaiteh granted bail, noting the seriousness of the charges but emphasizing the presumption of innocence.
Bail was set at D16,000,000 for each, requiring a Gambian surety with property of equal value. The case is scheduled to continue on July 8, 2025.
