Musa Yalli Batchilly, an opposition leader who was booked by police investigators and charged with obtaining money by pretense and conspiracy to commit a felony, has been released on Friday after paying four hundred and seventy-one thousand two hundred dalasis (D471,200) to a complainant.

When contacted for comment on the matter, Cadet ASP Modou Musa Sisawo, the acting spokesperson of the police, confirmed the story. After paying the complaint, the police say the suspects could likely face prosecution because this is a criminal matter. But he added that only depends on the complaint.

Meanwhile, a short statement received from the acting spokesperson of the police reads: Complainant Xzy accused suspects Musa Yalli Batchilly of Latrikunda German and Musa Batchilly Bundung of obtaining money by pretense.

Musa Batchilly, one of the suspects, took $7,600 from the complainant under the pretense of arranging the complainant’s son’s travel to Nicaragua and then to the USA through the Mexican border.

However, the suspect failed to facilitate the trip and could not be contacted after receiving the money. Musa Yalli Batchilly was arrested on November 2, 2023, interrogated, and charged with obtaining goods by pretense and conspiracy to commit a felony.

The two suspects were detained, but on November 3, 2023, Musa Yalli Batchilly decided to refund the money to the complainant and was escorted to the Eco Bank to do so. The money was returned to the complainant, leading to the release of the two Bathilly’s.
