The ‘no case submission’ in the ongoing trial of Ousainou Bojang and Amie Bojang has been dismissed by Justice Ebrima Jaiteh. The two individuals are facing charges related to a police shooting incident that resulted in the deaths of two police constables.

Ousainou Bojang, a resident of Brufut, is charged with multiple offenses, including two counts of murder, for the alleged shooting of Constables Sang J. Gomez and Pateh Jallow at the Sukuta-Jabang Traffic Lights in September 2023. Amie Bojang is accused of being an accessory after the fact, allegedly aiding her brother in evading justice.

Defence’s attorneys Lamin J. Darboe and Lamin Mboge argued that the prosecution’s case must be reassessed before the accused can respond. However, Justice Jaiteh ruled that the evidence presented warranted further examination by the accused. The prosecution called thirteen witnesses and presented various exhibits to support their claims. Justice Jaiteh stressed the importance of Ousainou Bojang clarifying his whereabouts at the time of the incident and disclosing details about his conversations with key witnesses.

Similarly, Amie Bojang must explain her actions in allegedly assisting her brother’s escape towards the Senegal border. The prosecution has presented direct and circumstantial evidence linking the accused individuals to this case, Justice Jaiteh stated, affirming that a prima facie case exists against both defendants. He deemed the defence’s arguments lacking merit and instructed the accused to present their case.

The court has set November 4, 2024, as the date for the next hearing, when Ousainou Bojang will commence his defence.
