The Gambia Appoints Dr Jorjoh Ndure-Tambedou as Executive Director of Tertiary and Higher Education Trust Fund

BANJUL, The Gambia – 17 October 2025 – The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Jorjoh Ndure-Tambedou as the inaugural Executive Director of the Tertiary and Higher Education Trust (THET) Fund.

The appointment, which has been approved by the Office of the President, is a strategic move to leverage Dr Ndure-Tambedou’s extensive leadership experience in education, research, and financial management to steer this pivotal national fund.

Dr Ndure-Tambedou brings over two decades of distinguished expertise to the role. As the Chief Executive Officer of InSIST Global, she has overseen the implementation of major national projects, including the Education Management Information System (EMIS) for TVET institutions and the Social Registry System. Her work as a UN Consultant for UNESCO, where she led the development of The Gambia’s National Strategy for the Digital Transformation of TVET, directly aligns with the THET Fund’s mandate to enhance the quality and relevance of higher education.

A proven leader in innovation and empowerment, Dr Ndure-Tambedou is the co-founder of Afrijula, an entrepreneurship platform, and the President of the Rise Women’s Network. Her accolades include being a Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 honouree, an Acumen Fellow, and the recipient of the 2024 Woman of the Year SheAward. She holds a PhD in Life Sciences from the Open University, UK, in collaboration with the University of Oxford.

In her new capacity, Dr Ndure-Tambedou will be responsible for providing strategic leadership for the THET Fund. Her key duties will include managing the Fund’s resources, developing policies for disbursing grants to tertiary institutions, fostering strategic partnerships, and ensuring transparency and accountability in advancing The Gambia’s higher education sector.

The Honourable Minister of MoHERST, Professor Pierre Gomez, stated, “Dr Ndure-Tambedou’s exceptional track record in managing complex initiatives and her deep commitment to educational advancement make her the ideal leader for the THET Fund. We are confident that under her stewardship, the Fund will become a transformative force for research, innovation, and sustainable development in our nation’s tertiary education landscape.”

The Ministry calls on all partners in the education sector and the public to extend their full support and cooperation to Dr Ndure-Tambedou as she assumes this critical national responsibility.
