Sudanese Prime Minister Kamil Idris dissolved the caretaker government just one day after taking office.
This decision follows a conflict that began in April 2023, resulting in a civil war between the military and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Idris urged an end to support for the RSF and promised to work sincerely for the benefit of the Sudanese people. The war has caused at least 24,000 deaths and displaced over 14 million people, leading to serious humanitarian issues, including famine in Darfur.
Reports indicate atrocities such as mass rape and ethnic killings, which the UN and international rights groups classify as war crimes and crimes against humanity.
