The Seychelles will lead the Eastern Africa group of the African Development Bank (AfDB) after assuming the chairmanship during the bank’s 60th Annual Meeting in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
The Seychelles delegation included Patrick Payet and Shirin Pillay. Payet emphasized the country’s commitment to inclusive growth and sustainable development.
Ronald Cafrine was named the new executive director of the Eastern Africa group, effective August 1, 2025.
This group includes Rwanda, Ethiopia, Kenya, Eritrea, Seychelles, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Dr. Sidi Ould Tah will become the new President of the AfDB after Dr. Akinwumi Adesina’s term ends in August 2025.
The Seychelles aims to strengthen its relationships with international partners at this meeting.
