Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye met with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace following France’s closure of its military bases in Senegal, which marked the end of over sixty years of military presence.

Faye, who recently won the election, requested the troop withdrawal and aims to shift Senegal’s international partnerships.

He is seeking an apology from France for historical injustices, particularly the 1944 massacre of Senegalese soldiers.
