Sénégal has launched the second phase of the Project for Support and Promotion of Women’s and Youth’s Entrepreneurial Initiatives (PAVIE II) with a budget of €163.449 million.
The initiative aims to create 92,633 jobs, empower women and youth, and advance food sovereignty. It aligns with the “Sénégal 2050” national development strategy.
Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko emphasized its strategic importance for positioning Sénégal as a West African entrepreneurial hub and noted that women and 56% of youth will lead 58% of initiatives.
Dr. Akinwumi Adesina of the African Development Bank highlighted the project’s potential to transform the economy through agriculture and innovation.
PAVIE II builds on the success of its first phase, which supported 24,000 initiatives and created over 93,000 jobs. Key improvements include complete digitalization of business processes and enhanced localized support.
Funding partners include the African Development Bank, the French Development Agency, private banks, and the Government of Sénégal.
The program is expected to generate 185,633 direct and indirect jobs, with significant allocations for women and youth.
The launch featured keynote speeches, discussions on topics like food sovereignty, and testimonials from beneficiaries.
