A partnership between the Senegalese government and SUEZ, known as SEN’EAU, has been honored with an award at the 9th International Forum on Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) for its significant impact on sustainable water services and its alignment with the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
Launched five years ago, SEN’EAU delivers clean drinking water to over 10 million people in urban areas, employing a hybrid governance model that maintains government sovereignty while drawing on SUEZ’s expertise.
Key achievements include an increase in daily water supply in Dakar, a remarkable consumer confidence rate of 93%, and ongoing solar energy projects aimed at reducing carbon emissions.
Additionally, the initiative prioritizes capacity-building and vocational training, thereby creating job opportunities for young people. SEN’EAU stands as a model of practical public-private cooperation in addressing water security challenges in Africa.
