Rwanda’s recent decision to leave the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) highlights the need for regional organizations to uphold their promises of transparency, equality, and fairness.
Rwanda decided to withdraw because it was passed over for leadership roles due to manipulation by the Democratic Republic of Congo. Although Rwanda helped found ECCAS and later rejoined, the group has not been a significant factor in its foreign policy and has not initiated any substantial cooperation.
This raises important questions about the effectiveness of the bloc and the benefits it provides to its members; Rwanda’s exit calls for ECCAS to reform, ensuring fair leadership and real results.
This move underscores the importance of countries joining organizations that genuinely promote equality and consistency and reminds us that regional cooperation should benefit all parties involved.
