Counsel Borry Touray, representing Mr. Momodou L. Jarju (Rongo), informed the court of his client’s decision to simplify his case by presenting key documents rather than a large number. The civil suit involves claims of unlawful arrest, detention, and prosecution by the State.
In a hearing on June 23, 2025, both Rongo and his attorney were present, along with other parties involved in the case. Counsel Touray noted that nearly one hundred documents had been submitted as evidence, but Rongo will focus on a smaller set listed in a recent affidavit.
The judge scheduled multiple dates for pretrial proceedings to expedite the case, with adjourned dates set from November 3rd to 19th. Rongo’s key documents include a favorable judgment from the Banjul Magistrate Court, newspaper articles about his unlawful arrest, medical receipts, recommendation letters, and various invitations related to cultural projects.
Rongo is seeking a total of D30,000,000 in damages for his unlawful arrest and detention, malicious prosecution, and lost earnings, along with a 25% interest rate on the claims from November 1, 2012, and costs of action.
