The Gambian President Adama Barrow receives the African Award for Peace Promotion Prize in Mauritania. Barrow won the award in 2023, which resulted in the traveling of a delegation from the African Conference for Promoting Peace led by Sheikh Abdullah Bin Bayyah to the State House in Banjul to inform President Barrow that the Select Committee established that he was a unanimous choice for the 2024 Award.

The award recognizes his efforts in “promoting peace and human dignity and inspires other African leaders to emulate him in building a peaceful and prosperous future for the African continent.”

Reacting to the news, President Barrow expressed gratitude for the award and said, “I am grateful to receive such news. It is a great honour to follow in the footsteps of people like Former President Muhammad Buhari in receiving this recognition.

The African Prize for Promoting Peace is a Mauritanian initiative established in 2020 in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Peace Forum in the United Arab Emirates, and only two former country presidents won it; Niger and Nigeria.
