Police Shot Suspected Assailants and Arrested Three Others During a Confrontation in Banjul

The Gambian Police have shot a suspected assailant and apprehended three others following a violent confrontation at the Jah Oil petrol station on Bond Road in Banjul.

According to police reports, the incident began when a heated altercation erupted between a staff member of the fueling station and a group of aggressive individuals. Among those arrested are Momodou Njie, 30, who was shot during the incident, as well as Ousman Jobe, 25, and Ousainou Njie, 20. Upon their arrival, police officers attempted to de-escalate the situation but were quickly overpowered by those involved. As tensions escalated, the officers called for reinforcements.

Despite the arrival of additional personnel, the aggressors continued to resist and advanced toward the officers. To restore order, the police issued multiple warnings and fired warning shots. However, the individuals remained defiant and launched an attack on the officers.

In self-defense, the police shot one of the assailants in the leg, leading to his immediate apprehension, while two others were also arrested. The remaining individuals fled the scene.

“The suspects now face charges related to assault and are cooperating with investigators. Meanwhile, police efforts are ongoing to locate the additional individuals involved in the incident,” stated the police.
