Ousainou Darboe, the leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP), announced his plan to run for the party’s nomination in the 2026 presidential election.
He called for party unity and urged members to put aside past disagreements to focus on shared goals. Darboe intends to submit his candidacy during the official selection process and aims to run a campaign that focuses on the shortcomings of the current National People’s Party (NPP) government.
He emphasized the importance of party cohesion and cautioned against divisions that could harm the UDP’s chances in the elections.
His announcement suggests that there may be competition within the party as it seeks to become the leading opposition in The Gambia.
