Forty-four people in Nigeria have been sentenced to prison terms of up to 30 years for aiding Boko Haram. The trials, held in Kanji, Niger State, involved special military courts and included hard labor.
Since 2017, Nigeria has convicted 785 individuals for terrorism-related offenses. Boko Haram, a militant group opposing Western influence, has caused significant violence in Nigeria and neighboring countries since its emergence in 2002, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths and millions displaced.
Notable incidents include the 2014 abduction of 276 schoolgirls in Chibok and attacks on civilian targets.
