On August 1, 2025, Minister Dr. Habibatou Drammeh presented $2 million in laboratory supplies to 29 Upper Basic and Senior Secondary Schools in The Gambia, marking the most extensive distribution of such resources in recent years.
This initiative aims to enhance practical learning in STEM subjects. The success is attributed to a partnership with the Kuwaiti government, with plans for additional regional laboratories, including one in Mansakonko.
Minister Drammeh emphasized the importance of using proper equipment and providing teacher training. Mr. Louis Moses Mendy highlighted the need for a revised curriculum and local professional training to reduce reliance on skilled foreign workers.
At the same time, Mrs. Fatou Bittaye-Cham stressed the role of science laboratories in providing practical learning and fostering collaboration among students.
