Lebanese activists gathered in central Beirut to denounce any concessions by the Lebanese government to the Israeli regime and to reject demands to disarm the resistance, organizers said.
The protest, organized by the Lebanese National Action Coordination Committee, took place in Riyadh al-Solh Square opposite the prime minister’s office, coinciding with a meeting of the ceasefire mechanism committee overseeing the truce between Lebanon and the Israeli regime in Ras al-Naqoura.
The committee said the demonstration was held amid the continued and escalating aggression by the Israeli regime against Lebanon, accusing the government of pursuing a policy of unjustified concessions to an enemy that continues to violate Lebanese sovereignty.
In a statement, the organizers said the protest was a response to free concessions offered by the Lebanese government to the Israeli regime, particularly the participation of civilians in negotiations with the regime through the ceasefire mechanism committee.
Separately, protesters stressed their rejection of any political or economic normalization or any military cooperation with Israel outside the framework of implementing United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.
They called on the Lebanese government not to retreat in the face of the enemy and urged it to stand with the people and uphold Lebanon’s rights.
In a related development, demonstrators demanded the strengthening of the Lebanese army’s capabilities and the provision of the weapons needed to defend national sovereignty.
Meanwhile, the protesters firmly rejected any plan or request to disarm the resistance, saying the weapons of the resistance are a core element of the deterrence equation and a safeguard of Lebanon’s unity.
They said any attempt to abandon these weapons would amount to surrendering to the demands of the enemy and its Western backers.
The Lebanese National Action Coordination Committee said the protests fall within the framework of legitimate defense of Lebanon, its sovereignty, and its national and economic rights.
The committee also emphasized the need to reinforce national unity and reject foreign interference that it described as humiliating for Lebanon.
Dr. Amin Saleh, a member of the committee, said: “The aim of the sit-in organized by national forces committed to protecting the supreme national interest is to call on the government not to respond to the demands of the enemy, to refrain from granting it concessions in negotiations, and to prevent shifting the negotiations from a technical framework to a political, economic or military one.”
He stressed the need for serious efforts by the Lebanese government to ensure the complete withdrawal of the Israeli regime from Lebanese territory, facilitate the return of displaced people to their areas in southern Lebanon, and rebuild the country.
Saleh added that the Lebanese army must be strengthened at all levels, both in terms of equipment and personnel.
Reiterating the rejection of any request to disarm the resistance, he said the issue of weapons is an internal Lebanese matter and that the resistance’s arms are “a fundamental pillar in the deterrence equation against the enemy and in confronting its ambitions and aggressions.”
He said: “Israel does not recognize the state of Lebanon, its borders, or even the borders of all Arab countries, because it seeks to implement the so-called ‘Greater Israel’ project from the Nile to the Euphrates.”
Saleh said national forces are not opposed to the government or the state, adding that they support strengthening the state and reinforcing a position that prevents surrender to the enemy and denies Zionists what they failed to achieve in war through political means.
Meanwhile, amid what protesters described as US complicity and the inaction of Lebanese authorities, repeated attacks by occupying forces have become a routine occurrence in Lebanon.
Over recent weeks, they said, the Israeli regime has significantly expanded its aggression against Lebanon alongside increased US political threats and pressure aimed at pushing Lebanon toward normalization with the enemy.
In this context, the Lebanese government has taken no serious action in response to repeated violations of the ceasefire by the Israeli regime, protesters said, instead placing its hopes on US moves that they say have given Israel a green light to continue its aggression.
