The Kanifing Municipal Council is contemplating disciplinary measures against its officers due to allegations of mistreatment of Kumba Secka, who has been accused of theft in Serrekunda.

The municipal police arrested Ms. Secka for allegedly stealing D62,500 worth of cosmetic goods, shoe bags, clothing, and several kilograms of meat.

As public outrage escalated over a viral video showcasing the municipal police’s unprofessional and unethical treatment of the suspect, municipal police chief DCP Sainey Sanyang expressed his disappointment regarding the conduct of his officers. He characterized their actions as “excessive and demonstrating a limited regard for her fundamental human rights.”

The police chief commented, “Upon reviewing the footage, I was saddened by how my officers handled the situation. Their conduct was unethical, unprofessional, and excessive, showing little regard for Ms. Secka’s basic human rights. “As a result, I have directed the officers to come to my office tomorrow morning for a disciplinary hearing. After this, the case will be sent to the Appointments and Establishment Committee of the council for further action.”
