Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba hosts a three-day summit from Wednesday, August 20, to Friday, the 22nd, with nearly 50 African leaders as part of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), aiming to strengthen economic ties amid reduced U.S. involvement and China’s growing influence in Africa.
He plans to introduce a new cooperation framework between the Indo-Pacific and Africa, focusing on promoting free trade and investment, particularly through the “Indian Ocean–Africa Economic Zone Initiative.”
